Autotransfusion Services is a unique specialty that includes collecting and returning shed blood from the surgical field to significantly reduce or eliminate the need for blood transfusions. The patients own shed blood is mixed with an anti-coagulant, filtered, washed, and concentrated before being returned to the patient. This procedure offers many benefits including: immediate availability of autologous blood, reduces the risk of blood borne disease and the risk of exposure to the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and the Hepatitis B Virus, and is commonly accepted by Jehovah Witness patients. This procedure can be requested for most surgical specialties, including: orthopedic, general surgery, gynecology, trauma, and urology.
We also provide Platelet Rich Plasma. This involves drawing a small volume of blood from the patient at the time of surgery, centrifuging the cells to concentrate the platelets, and then returning the concentrated platelets to the surgeon to apply to the wound. The concentrated platelets contain many growth factors which accelerate and enhance healing, reduce inflammation, reduce pain, decrease risk of infection, and decrease dermal scarring. This procedure can also be requested for most type of surgeries.
